MUSIC MINISTRY

Requirements for serving
in the Music Ministry
(Practice Times)

Being in a position of ministry, we must all be born again, agree with the tenets of faith, and the ministry beliefs of Calvary Chapel, and have attended this church for at least 3 months, or know someone who is a member of Calvary Chapel who can vouch for your relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.

All auditions will be with Worship Pastor Brent Stewart

Auditioning for singers:

A. Must be able to sing on pitch (in tune).
B. Must have sufficient range (your highest to lowest notes)to sing the average song.
C. In order to sing harmony in the music ministry you must demonstrate your ability to do so. If God has not gifted you with an ear for harmony, which is a very rare gift, stick with the melody.
D. Be able to blend as one voice with others in pitch, volume, vibrato, and timing.

Auditions for musicians:

A. Know how to play by chords or be able to learn chords easily as you go.
B. Have a good sense of rhythm and keep time well.
C. Play well with others without standing out.
D. To play solos you must either demonstrate your ability to improvise or have a solo written out that blends well with the team.

Attitude regarding leadership:

A. Jesus is the head of his church in general and this church in particular.
B. Pastor Bob is the head pastor of Calvary Chapel of Aiken answerable to Jesus and the leadership board.

In the event of a problem within the music ministry:

a. Pray about it and seek God's wisdom in it.
b. Come to Brent about it.
c. If you can't abide by Brent's answer, repeat a and b.
d. See Brent and Bob together about the problem.

Attitude about the ministry of music and what we are here for:

We exist to bring glory and honor to the name of Jesus our Lord.

  • We are here to lead the congregation of CCA into the presence of the Lord as skillfully as possible and with a worshipful countenance that reveals the joy of our salvation.
  • Clapping in time and lifting holy hands to heaven, as led by the Spirit, are essential ministry tools which lead others into deeper worship. We are the lead worshippers. If we don't outwardly worship, the congregation won't feel free to openly show their love for Jesus either.
  • Because we are in a position of ministry, the clothes we wear should be appropriate and modest.
  • There must be more than a desire to serve, there must be at least a minimal level of giftedness in the area of music and a willingness to demonstrate worship to others.

We must each be committed to this ministry and place it relatively high on our list of priorities.

God first, spouse and/or family second, occupation third, ministry fourth.

Practices are on Thursday evenings at 7 and Sunday mornings at 9:30. Attendance is expected, or you need to contact Brent if you won't be able to be there.

As God blesses us with more singers and/or musicians than the stage will accommodate, we must be willing to rotate "worship teams" to allow everyone to serve as God has called them.

Each singer and musician should notify Brent if they can not serve on a day when they are scheduled so he can contact an alternate.
