The Vision & The Strategy

Calvary Chapel's Vision

Vision is not about reality or what is. Vision is all about what could be. At Calvary Chapel, we envision our sharing the good news of Christ’s death and resurrection with our unsaved family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and those whom God brings across our path.

We envision taking all people out of darkness and teaching them how to walk in the light of the Lord Jesus Christ, through people-friendly worship services, Learning Centers, special events, and most important small groups.

We envision becoming a church of small groups where our people model biblical community: a safe place where we accept one another and are accepted, love and are loved, shepherd and are shepherded, encourage and are encouraged, forgive and are forgiven, and serve and are served.

We envision helping all our people--youth and adults--to discover their divine designs so that they are equipped to serve Christ effectively in some ministry either within or outside our church. Our goal is that every member becomes a minister.

We envision welcoming numerous members into our body who are excited about Christ, experience healing in their family relationships and marriages, and grow together in love.

We envision our recruiting, training, and sending out many of our members as missionaries, church planters, and church workers all over the world. We also see planting new churches as God raises up leaders and gives us growth. We believe that our body will grow. While we do not believe that “bigger is better,” numerical growth is a by-product of effective evangelism. Thus, we desire to grow as God prospers us and uses us to reach a lost and dying world.

This is our dream. Our vision about what could be!

Calvary Chapel's Strategy

Our mission is that through worship and the studying of God’s Word, we will be able to take people out of darkness and teach them to walk in the light of Jesus Christ. People who walk in the light of Jesus Christ have three characteristics:
  1. They know Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
  2. They are committed to grow in their knowledge and grace of Christ.
  3. They serve the body, share their finances, and seek the lost.
    The strategic goals:
    1. To encourage individuals to become a converted disciple.
    2. To encourage individuals to become a committed disciple.
    3. To encourage individuals to become a contributing disciple.

The specific action steps to accomplish our goals:

  • 1st Step: A Converted Disciple
Goal: To encourage individuals to put their faith in Jesus Christ and to become actively involved in the various ministries of the fellowship. Luke 15:1-10, 19:1-10; Col. 4:2-6; 2 Tim. 4:4; 1 Cor. 14:22-25.
Strategy #1: A “grace-oriented” large group meeting on Sunday mornings to interest both the lost and the saved in becoming Christ’s disciples. The meetings will include verse-by-verse teachings from the books of the Bible and celebrative worship. Strategy #2: Special outreach events to minister to lost and saved people and assimilate them into the church such as Vacation Bible School, men’s and women’s ministries, community events, and others.
  • 2nd Step: A Committed Disciple
Goal: To encourage individuals to become a committed disciple as found in Acts 2:41-47. Col. 1:28; Eph. 4:12-13; 1 Tim. 4:7-8; Heb. 6:1-3.
Strategy #1: House Church. Lay leaders will oversee small house church gatherings, that will help one another become more like Christ. Meeting at least three times a month, these house churches will include the following: shepherding, discussing the Bible, exercising spiritual gifts, fellowship, accountability, prayer, and evangelism.
Strategy #2: Christian Edification. Christian edification is the building up of one another until we all come to maturity in our knowledge of Jesus Christ. We believe that it begins with the children, therefore we will provide a children’s Learning Centers for the instruction of our children during the teaching time. We will also us small discipleship groups, one-on-one discipleship, and youth groups as a way to help everyone grow in the knowledge and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. The small groups and discipleship groups will provide:
1 new believers with a knowledge of the basic doctrines of the Christian faith. 2 all believers with an in-depth knowledge of the Bible. 3 means to help believers capacities that go beyond the knowledge level. 4 skills that will enhance family life.
  • 3rd Step: A Contributing Disciple
Goal: To encourage individuals to make a contribution to Christ. This involves three things: serving the body, sharing your finances, and seeking the lost:
Strategy #1: Serving the Body--Eph. 4:12. Through observation and taking spiritual gifts tests, we will assess our people and provided the necessary information for them to discover their divine designs. We will match the people with the church’s ministries for which they are best suited according to God’s design.
Strategy #2: Sharing our Finances--2 Cor. 8-9. It is part of our worship of God to systematically give back a portion of what He has blessed us with. We will use the tithes and offerings to reach out to the community with the gospel of Jesus Christ. And we will ensure that the needs of the body are also met. We will teach our people the biblical principles that will help them to handle their finances in a Christ-honoring way.
Strategy #3: Seeking the Lost: Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15; Acts 1:8. We will provide classes in evangelism so that our people will understand the importance of evangelism, discover their style of evangelism, and how to share their faith with the lost. We will involve our people in missions abroad and at home. We will start new churches as we grow.
